Boat and Yacht Captain Richard Pook has been working in the yachting industry for over thirty years. This experience has taken him through extensive charter work, charter base management, technical maintenance and project management, engineer on superyachts, as well as a yacht delivery skipper.
His qualifications are the British Royal Yachting Association (RYA)/ Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) Yachtmaster with commercial endorsement, and MCA yacht engineers qualification. This entitles him to captain yachts up to 200 tonnes, and work as an engineer in most large yachts over 100ft. Not only do these qualifications guarantee considerable ability, they also satisfy most yacht insurance companies for the long-haul re-location of vessels. Richard is also a qualified instructor for the American Sailing Association.
Over many years, delivery work carried out by Richard has involved numerous ocean passages, and in excess of 100,000 passage miles. In particular, his experience in the technical aspects of boats means that he is well equipped to deal with issues which, not uncommonly, develop on long delivery passages.
Around ten years ago, he decided to quit his native UK, with the intention of basing himself in the Caribbean. Taking possession of a new yacht in the west of France, which was destined for a large charter company in Grenada, West Indies, he stated to acquaintances that he may be gone for some time! Indeed, he is still based in the Caribbean islands, living on his own yacht.
